The 3-years curriculum of the IRTG

The IRTG’s curriculum consists of CRC-specific, recurrent events as well as an individual qualification of the doctoral students. This 3 years curriculum can be finished, once the curricular demands have been accomplished. Following the recommendations of the Dahlem Research School (DRS) for structured programs, students have to achieve 30 credit points (CPs) within the time frame of 6 semesters to accomplish the curriculum. 17.5 CPs have to be achieved in mandatory modules of the curriculum (red elements in the table), which mainly involve the (obligatory) participation in recurrent IRTG events. In addition, the students can choose among facultative modules (orange and green elements in the table), which mainly constitute their individual training program, in order to achieve the remaining 12.5 CPs. The activities include active participations at scientific conferences and research stays/internships (orange elements in the table) as well as courses in key scientific competences, soft skills and the interaction with the general public (green elements in the table). The fact that the mandatory modules of the curriculum sum up to 17.5 CPs, while the facultative modules comprise 41 CPs in total, reflects the incentive of the IRTG to integrate the doctoral students in a well-defined structured program, yet providing sufficient flexibility to allow the students to attend courses depending on their personal needs and interests.
